Eating Gingerly for Your Health

Ginger has been studied for its anti-nausea properties, and it’s back in the news as a possible preventive for colon cancer.
In a National Cancer Institute funded phase 2 study conducted by the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, researchers have found that ginger can reduce inflammation in the intestines, which in turn could help reduce the risk of colon cancer. They determined that ginger acts against the COX enzyme, which influence the chronic inflammation associated with colon cancer. This study also looked at 30 subjects who were randomized o receive either 2 grams of ground ginger root extract or a placebo every day for 28 days. The inflammation in the subjects who took the ginger decreased by an average of 28 percent.
While no one will recommend taking ginger daily for prevention, they feel further studies need to be performed. The interest in this will only continue to increase because people are wanting to learn of ways to prevent cancer and other health issues in a nontoxic way and at the same time help to improve their overall quality of life.
So, with lifestyle changes, reducing stress, improving your quality of sleep, eliminating certain foods from our diet that can aggravate our digestive tract will help reduce inflammation in our body. In addition to incorporating acupuncture on a regular basis can improve your overall health and well being, keep your stress under control and help with reduction of inflammation as well.
